Customers of  The Whalley Wine Shop have a unique opportunity to purchase fine wine ‘by the glass’ to drink and enjoy in the shop. This means that wine lovers will be able to sample the finest wines in the world before deciding to buy a bottle!

During the last week of January, you will find the following wines available for you to sample in the shop….

Vidal ‘Legacy’
Chardonnay, New Zealand, 2012. The grapes for this wine are picked from two sites in New Zealand, Keltern and Gimblett Gravels. They use 40% new oak barrels and a natural fermentation. Matts Note: Oak aromas, toasty, matchstrike. Clean palate with peaches and stone fruit. Rich opulent finish. This wine is £34.99 per bottle, you can sample it from £1.60                

Jean Marc Brocard ‘Les Clos’ Chablis Grand Cru, France, 2010. Situated in one of the most famous and largest of the Grand Cru’s of Chablis. With less than a metre of clay soil before hitting the chalky Kimmeridgian soil that stretches all the way back to Dover. Matts Note: Complex, stony, smoky, flint aromas. With citrus zest on the palate, a chalky slightly saline finish. This wine is £42.99 per bottle, you can sample it from £1.90

Millton ‘Riverpoint Vineyard’ Gewurztraminer, New Zealand, 2013. Hand harvested over four weeks to add complex layers of aromas and flavours. This winemaker is a follower of the biodynamic techniques. Matts Note: A very aromatic wine, roses, lychees, flowers, white peach. On the palate there’s texture and flavours with a spicy lychee finish. This wine is £14.99 per bottle, you can sample it from 80p.

Chateau Musar ‘Blanc’ Obaideh, Merwah Lebanon, 2001. We’ve decided to put the Musar wines in to honour Serge Hochar who passed away over Christmas. It was Serge’s devotion and hard work that put Musar on the world wine map. Matts Note: Sweet, bready, baked apples on the nose, a little hint of sherry. Honey and bruised apples on the finish. This wine is £17.99 per bottle, you can sample it from £1.00

Mahi Marlborough Pinot Noir, New Zealand, 2012. ‘Mahi’ means ‘Our work, our craft’ and the winemakers are firm believers in not rushing their wines into bottle. This wine comes from five different vineyards around the Marlborough region. Matts Note: Crunchy red fruits, cherries and plums. Smoky, gamey. With a spicy finish. This wine is £19.99 per bottle, you can sample it from £1.00

Masi Campofiorin ‘Ripasso’
Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, Italy. 1997. Campofiorin is a speciality of Masi, using a double fermentation technique. Some 75% of the grapes used are freshly picked, and is allowed to ferment normally, the rest are semi dried and are re-fermented with the fresh juice. Matts Note: Burnt toffee and dried fruits like raisins and prunes. Cocoa and vanilla in the finish. This wine is £26.99 per bottle, you can sample it from £1.30
