It may be ‘Dry January’ everywhere else, but at The Whalley Wine Shop it is definitely ‘Try January’! Because tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, at our Whalley Shop we have a new selection available ‘By The Glass and at our Huntley’s shop, we will have some superb wines open for you to have a FREE taste.
Here’s what’s on FREE tasting at Huntley’s
If you’re looking for something a little lighter both on the waistline and the wallet, here are a couple of delicious wines that you might like to try for free this weekend….
Our first free sample is a delicious little known Italian red from Verona. Made from the Marzemino grape, the ‘Villa Mura Marzemino’ has a lovely soft dark fruit character with hints of blackberry, dark cherry and some softer red currant notes. At only 12% alcohol it’s lightness and softness makes it a perfect pairing with traditional tomato based pasta dishes. The clincher is the price, at only £7.49 a bottle (£6.75 if you buy 12 bottles) this is ideal as an everyday wine.
Our next free sample is a lower alcohol wine and a home grown wine too. English producer New Hall from Purleigh in Essex makes some beautifully pretty wines at sensible and realistic prices. If you have never tried or are sceptical about English wine, then you will be surprised and amazed by the 2015 Bacchus from New Hall. Light and zesty with a note of soft elderflower, fresh cut grass and a zing of lime this is perfect for fans of Sauvignon Blanc. At 10.5% alcohol it is ideal with a light salad or a Thai green curry. At £10.49 £(9.44 when you buy 12), this little gem offers exceptional value.
If you call in this weekend, you can also enjoy a sample of the deliciously fruity Lindisfarne Sloe Liqueur, as featured on BBC’s Countryfile, a sample of Sandeman’s 10 year old Tawny Port, and for beer drinkers we will have open a 5 litre keg of Thornbridge Brewery’s Hark Ale. So there’s plenty of lovely stuff to enjoy.

We are also tasting 4 different red grapes from four different countries…Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Carignan from Spain, USA, Australia and France respectively
And we have some very tasty ‘House Pours’ where you can grab a glass of wine from just £2.50. Plus, there will also be a 5 litre cask of Thornbridge Hark Ale for you to have a free taste.
