With Valentines Day just around the corner (it’s Sunday in case you did forget!), we just wanted to let you know that we are open every night of the week until 10pm, so if you need to nip out and sort a Valentines gift The Whalley Wine Shop is the perfect place. We are even open at 10am on Sunday morning for that (very) last minute gift dash!
For her – we have something special, the Laurent Perrier Rose – with £5 off. It’s normally £49.99, we have it on offer this weekend at £44.99 and it’s gift boxed too. If pink fizz isn’t her thing we also have a range of fine Champagnes with £5 off a bottle this weekend. In fact we have some rather special bottles – including Krug and Taittinger’s fabulous Comte Blanc de Blanc – with a whopping £15 off per bottle. We also have a superb range of Gins all fabulously bottled and packaged, which make superb gifts.
For him – well, they say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and dare we suggest that a mini keg of real ale would be just the job! If that sounds the ticket then we have an offer on our Arches Amber Ale, the newest brew from Bowland Brewery and exclusive to us, a 5 Ltr Mini Keg, – £5 off, normally £21.99 now at the incredible price of only £16.99 ! Or if it’s his favourite tipple you’re looking for then we also have a superb range of Malt Whiskies, a nice drop of Port or a fabulous bottle of Red.
If you find yourselves out and about in Whalley over the weekend we also have a couple of little treats for Fizz drinkers – as well as our usual Prosecco at £3 a glass and Champagne at £6 a glass we will be serving the Laurent Perrier Rose at only £8 a glass! We will also be offering Free Corkage on all bottles of Champagne bought to drink at the shop this weekend – the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy a bottle of Champagne together this Valentines!
Today is Beaujolais Nouveau day, the annual celebration to honour the end of the harvest and offer the first taste of the new vintage. It happens every year on the third Thursday of November and it always feels like a turning point. It’s the moment the season turns a corner. Autumn becomes winter and Christmas is within reach.
Beaujolais is made from the gamay grape – and is a light-bodied wine, so it’s often thought of as a summer drink, but we think it’s more suited to the dark, cold months. Its cool bite (Beaujolais is best drunk slightly chilled) peps you up and it goes really well with steamy, hot casseroles from coq au vin to daube de boeuf.
The Whalley Wine Shop has just taken delivery of the Georges Duboeuf 2015 vintage and we have it on sale at £9.99 a bottle or £55 for 6 bottles (9.17 a bottle). Or if you would like a sample of the wine then we have it available By The Glass too. We really recommend you try this wine as the spotlight this year is definitely on the quality of the 2015 vintage.
Georges Duboeuf and his winemaking team believe this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau will be one of the best they’ve ever produced. “Thanks to an extremely early harvest and blazing sunshine throughout the summer, our grapes have obtained perfect maturity this year, this is why we believe that 2015 is such a special year and can compete with 1947, 1976, 2005 and 2009 – maybe even surpassing them.”
The 2015 vintage is predicted to be one of the all-time greats. The color is a deep red with tones of purple and garnet, and the nose offers a magnificent array of blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry. The wine is round, full-bodied with a long finish.
Georges Duboeuf is a premium producer of award-winning French wines from the Beaujolais and Maconnais regions of Burgundy and the South of France. Georges Duboeuf is the number 1 selling brand of Beaujolais in the world and the world’s highest scoring French wine brand under $20, according to Wine Advocate (2009-2013).
If you would like to try it, then please pop in and say hello!
